Senior Field Practicum

Seniors are required to complete 480 hours of field instruction (14 hours per week) over 2 consecutive semesters. Students are enrolled in their placements during the Fall & Spring academic semesters.  Referred to as a concurrent placement, students divide their time between the classroom and the fieldwork experience. 

Seniors who are eligible for field meet and discuss with the Field Education Coordinator appropriate placement options during the months of October and February. Taken into consideration during these meetings is students’ academic performance, demonstration of professional readiness, previous volunteer experience and the demands of the field practicum.  

Students are required to interview at a minimum of three potential placement sites, prior to their final decisions to be completed by the end of the academic semester.

 Minimum Requirements*

           Student

        1.            Have completed all course requirements except SW 362 & SW 426;

                             2 .          Be in good academic standing;

        3.            Be enrolled in Senior Seminar I (SW 451) & Seminar II (SW 453).

       Field Instructor

         1.       Must have a MSW degree as required by the                     Council on Social Work Education                   

2.       Be located on-site;

3.     Provide a minimum of 1 hour of supervision/instruction per week;

4.   Attend field instruction seminars/trainings (2 per academic semester) provided by CCSU Social Work Program 

           

Agency

1.        Provide qualified MSW Field Supervisor;

2.       Require field supervisor to attend field instruction seminars/trainings provided by CCSU Social Work Program:

3.       Commitment to education and training of future social work professionals.

Internship Components

1.    Must include client system contact (individuals, families, groups, organizations & communities);

2.       Opportunities to develop generalist social work skills;
