Description The Connecticut Children's Trust Fund, an independent state agency, is leading the way toward healthy families and safer communities for all children of Connecticut.  The CT Children's Trust Fund is seeking interns to be placed in their Healthy Families Initiative, which includes, an intensive home-visiting component based the Healthy Families America model, First Steps and Nurturing programs.  There are a variety of locations around the state.

First Steps Program: This program uses trained volunteers and paraprofessionals to offer emotional support, parenting education, referrals to community services, crisis counseling, and follow-up contacts.  Initial contact with expectant and new parents occurs in hospital and clinic settings.  The target population: first time parents who are not involved with DCF and who are interested in individualized support for up to 6 months after birth of child.  TRAINING PROVIDED.  VERY APPROPRIATE FOR 5 Hour Students

Nurturing Program:  This intensive 26-week group experience for parents and their children is directly aimed at preventing child abuse and neglect.  The curriculum teaches families appropriate expectations and fosters empathic understanding and strategies for enhancing the well being of children.

Description:  is dedicated to helping children at risk, offenders, and their families learn how to constructively succeed as individuals, as members of a family, and as members of our society.  FIC provides specialized services including prevention, transportation, counseling, educational programs and referral services which focus on strengthening  the family, enhancing community safety and promoting individual responsibility.

Youth Enrichment Program (YES) is an after school program for children,-- ages 6 through 12 years-- who have an incarcerated parent . Tutoring and academic support; recreational activities and field trips; individual and group counseling.

Court Outreach Program operates in Hartford and Waterbury Courts.  Outreach workers approach families and inform them of resources that may be helpful to them, including FIC Counseling and support services.

Sesame Street Program operate at the Osborn Correction Institution in Somers, CT and York Correctional Institution in Niantic, CT.  These programs operate during the weekend visiting hours at each facility.  Requirement:  Criminal background check

Description: HRA is a community action agency located in New Britain.  It administers many social services and program sites.  

Someplace Special provides assistance to individuals and families who are infected with and/or affected by HIV and AIDS.  Assistance with transportation, respite care, drug treatment, childcare, homemaking, companion support is available. Activities conducted include educational workshops, a resource library, support groups, art therapy, massage therapy, social and recreational events.

Supportive Housing Program for People with AIDS HRA administers rental subsidies and provide support services to families living with HIV/AIDS.  Case management services are offered in an attempt to maintain safe, affordable housing and improve the quality  of life for families faced with the challenge of HIV/AIDS.
