Description:  As two of 60 Family Resource Centers funded by the State Department of Education, the underlying concept of the New Britain Family Resource Centers is that healthy development and good education begin with access to quality child care and support services from birth.  It is our goal to strengthen the ties between home and the school by offering a variety of services, programs and activities that support all families. 

Programs:    Parents as Teachers; Playgroups; Dad & Me Playgroup; Parenting Workshops; Special Events; Adult Education;  Lending Library; Positive Development; Resource and Referral; Family Daycare Training & Support offered.                             

There are many opportunities for students at the Family Resource Centers, including evenings and Saturdays.

Description: An after-school program for New Britain middle school girls.  Offers students high interest educational and recreational activities designed to discourage premature sexual activity, increase a sense of personal power and self-esteem.  Students take part in: field trips, life skills, health education, career goal setting activities, leadership skill development, pregnancy prevention activities, community service projects, homework assistance and tutorial help.  BEGINS OCTOBER 1, 2003

Description: The Student Service Center (SSC) , assist students grades 9-12 in a predominately African-American high school; SSC provides individual & group counseling, group mediation, student & parent conferences; staff consultation, agency outreach.  Opportunities to develop generalist social work skills,  interviewing & assessments skills, oral & written skills, interpersonal skills; interns must be willing to accept a challenge and have an excellent attendance record.
