Description: The Montville Youth Service Bureau has a commitment to broaden the experience and strengthen the values and healthy functioning of youth while meeting their social and emotional needs. Young people from birth to age 18 years are served. Services include but are not limited to counseling and referral; I & R; crisis intervention; drug, violence and alcohol prevention; social programs; Youth Action Council; parent education programs. Connecticut Children's Trust Fund Nuturing Conections Network
Description: The Connecticut Children's Trust Fund, an independent state agency, is leading the way toward healthy families and safer communities for all children of Connecticut. The CT Children's Trust Fund is seeking interns to be placed in their Healthy Families Initiative, which includes, an intensive home-visiting component based the Healthy Families America model, First Steps and Nurturing programs. There are a variety of locations around the state. First Steps Program: This program uses volunteers and paraprofessionals to offer emotional support, parenting education, referrals to community services, crisis counseling, and follow-up contacts. Initial contact with expectant and new parents occurs in hospital and clinic settings. The target population: first time parents who are not involved with DCF and who are interested in individualized support for up to 6 months after birth of child. TRAINING PROVIDED. VERY APPROPRIATE FOR 5 Hour Students
Nurturing Program: This intensive 26-week group experience for parents and their children is directly aimed at preventing child abuse and neglect. The curriculum teaches families appropriate expectations and fosters empathic understanding and strategies for enhancing the well being of children.

The Children's Home
Description: The Children's Home is a treatment facility of 71 children, ages 8-18, who, for many reasons, are unable to live with their families. They are children who have suffered abuse and neglect, are socially maladjusted, and have emotional and behavioral problems. The Buddy Program: companionship with a trustworthy adult. Pathways/Senderos Center
Description: A comprehensive, holistic neighborhood-based program of Greater New Britain Teen Pregnancy Prevention, Inc. Targets poverty-stricken youth and their families for comprehensive, holistic services designed ultimately to prevent teen pregnancy. This program model includes six integrated components: academic support, career preparation, family life and sex education, recreation/lifetime sports, health care and self-esteem enhancement. |

S.T.A.R.S. Stop Think And Respect Self Nutmeg Big Brothers Big Sisters
Description: S.T.A.R.S. is a new collaboration between Nutmeg Big Brothers Big Sisters, The Spanish Speaking Center, NEWBRACC, The Stanley Works, the American Lung Association and Connecticut Drugs Don't Work. S.T.A.R.S. will create one-on-one mentoring relationships between qualified, caring adults and 12-13 year old Latino children or, other at-risk youth, from single parent homes in the New Britain area. Volunteers in the program are there to listen, give support and be consistent friends. The Village for Families and Children The Mentoring Program
Description: a community-based, supportive service offered to youth who are at risk of institutionalized care or disrupting a home placement. It is a therapeutic approach utilizing community resources, non-traditional methods of intervention, and the strengths of a one-to-one relationship with a trained culturally competent mentor. Training is provided.

Catholic Charities/Catholic Family Services The Hartford Choice Program
Description:
is an intensive, community based, multiple service program. A
comprehensive aftercare program working in direct contact with juveniles
on parole in the Greater Hartford area. An intern will work to support a
team of caseworkers dealing with up to 22 clients. Intern
responsibilities include maintaining daily logs, assessments, monthly
reports, etc. Flexible schedule. Training is provided.

Central Connecticut State University Pre-Collegiate & Access Services Program 1. Equal Opportunity Program (EOP) 2. ConnCAP/UPWARD Bound Program
Description: The Pre-Collegiate & Access Service Dept. provides education enrichment to students from middle school to first year of college and beyond. EOP is designed for students who have the potential to successfully perform in college-level academic work, but who do not meet regular admission standards. Support services are provided to students to help ensure there support and promote retention. There is a Summer Component. ConnCAP/Upward Bound are college preparation programs for middle and high school students who are new to the idea of college. Selected students--grade 7-12--from New Britain (is a state funded program ConnCAP); selected students grade 8-12--from Bristol (federally funded program Upward Bound). Both programs are designed to help students successful complete high school and enroll in a college or post-secondary institution following graduation. ConnCAP/Upward Bound activities take place during the academic year at Bristol and New Britain Schools. Students receive academic advising and monitoring, tutoring, college advising and financial aid information. There is a six-week summer program at CCSU.

Human Resource Agency of New Britain (HRA) YouthBuild
Description: HRA is a community action agency with administers many social services and program sites throughout New Britain. YouthBuild is a collaborative project between HRA, Workforce Partners, Inc. and the City of New Britain Department of Municipal Development. This program services low-income at risk youth interested in pursuing a career in the building trades industry. A variety of services are provided including academic remediation, leadership skills, case management, support services and construction training where they work alongside construction crews. At the completion fo the program participants receive their GED and union card.
