Children's Trust Fund Nurturing Families Network Multiple Locations
Description: The Connecticut Children's Trust Fund, an independent state agency, is leading the way toward healthy families and safer communities for all children of Connecticut. The CT Children's Trust Fund is seeking interns to be placed in their Healthy Families Initiative, which includes, an intensive home-visiting component based the Healthy Families America model, First Steps and Nurturing programs. There are a variety of locations around the state. First Steps Program: This program uses volunteers and paraprofessionals to offer emotional support, parenting education, referrals to community services, crisis counseling, and follow-up contacts. Initial contact with expectant and new parents occurs in hospital and clinic settings. The target population: first time parents who are not involved with DCF and who are interested in individualized support for up to 6 months after birth of child. TRAINING PROVIDED. VERY APPROPRIATE FOR 5 Hour Students Nurturing Program: This intensive 26-week group experience for parents and their children is directly aimed at preventing child abuse and neglect. The curriculum teaches families appropriate expectations and fosters empathic understanding and strategies for enhancing the well being of children.

Description:
Direct casework services, observation, supervise parent/child visits,
mentor youngsters, report and document, opportunities to work on specific
projects available. Training:
Senior student interns, not already employed by DCF must attend mandatory
internship orientation sessions. Orientation sessions occur three times a year,
normally the first Wednesday of April, August, and December. In addition, all
interns will be offered five days of training from DCF’s pre-service
curriculum. Background
checks will be performed on all senior interns placed at DCF.
This includes: prior case history of child protective services; local and
state police or FBI; motor vehicle records.
